The Aachen Tramway from 1880 to 1974 was the backbone of public transport in the German city of Aachen and the surrounding areas. At times, they also were used in Belgium and the Netherlands. The route length of 181.4 kilometers and a line length of 213.5 kilometers. In 1914, it was the fourth largest tram network in Germany. [1] Also, it was one of the most extensive German intercity trams.
The network operated from 1880 by the Aachener und Burtscheider Horse Railway Company, which in 1894 became the Aachen Light Railway Society AKG. It is now a bus company, but still uses tram in their name.
